Greenfields Woodland of Remembrance

An Alternative for the Burial of Loved Ones

 Planting for Wildlife

Families may wish to provide a living memorial to loved ones that will enhance the beauty of the site and attract wildlife.

All species must be native to this area, not the non-native or developed 'garden' varieties found at most garden centres. We will therefore supply your chosen tree or wildflowers for you.

Tree Species

  • Common oak            Quercus robur
  • Sesssile oak              Quercus petraea
  • Hornbeam                 Carpinus betulus
  • Small-leaved lime      Tilia cordata
  • Ash                           Fraxinus excelsior
  • Silver birch                Betula pendula

Wildflowers

We will advise, depending on your choice of burial site, including:-

  • Native honeysuckle       Lonicera periclymenum
  • Cowslip                       Primula verum
  • Primrose                      Primula vulgaris
  • Wild daffodils               Narcissus pseudonarcissus
  • Bluebells                      Hyacinthoides non-scripta

Tree Dedication

The dedication of a tree in memory of a loved one is a special gift that will go on growing throughout the 21st centuary and beyond. As such, it's the perfect way to mark an occasion, or to celebrate someone special.

It also shows you care for our precious natural heritage, by helping us to protect and preserve our cherised woodland and the thousand of creatures that live there.

For each dedication you will receive a personalised certificate, and details of the exact location of the tree in our newly planted woodland. We can customise the exact details of the dedication options as follows:-

* Selection of a tree from our suppliers.

* A certificate confirming the dedication of the tree.

* A biodegradable identification tag on the dedicated tree which will last for about two years.

The above options are incuded in the price and we will happily discuss your personal requirements. Thereafter you may like to make a more permanent record of the dedication in the form of a small remembrance stone at the base of the tree. All stones are no bigger than A4 size and will be lain flush with the surface to remain inconspicuous.

The trees available are limited in choice as we aim to create a traditional Gloucestershire Woodalnd. These include Oak, Ash, Holly, Rowan, Guilder Wild Cherry, Hawthorn or Blackthorn.

Interment of Ashes

A special area of woodland has been designated for the interment.

Plaques

A stone A4 remembrance plaque to a standard design (engraved with the name of the deceased and date) will be allowed and will be laid flat on the ground. No other designs are permitted.

Coffins

All coffins and caskets for burial of ashes must be biodegradable and we can advise of the many types available.

Making Arrangements

Families are invited to view the site at any time. As the site has recently been planted, it would be advisable to wear strong walking shoes or wellies.
