Our Aims and Ethos

Example of a Natural Stone

Our Woodland of Remembrance will be a WOODLAND PASTURE  rather than dense woodland, and ancient habitat in which copses and groups of native trees like OAK, LIME and HORNBEAM, are separated by sunny areas of MEADOW. This design retains beautiful views to the Malvern Hills, which are a feature of the site. It will be a pleasant place to walk and to enjoy wildife, and open to visitors at all times.

The Bank overlooking the Chapel of Rest

Recently planted, this grassland will soon be rich in wild flowers and butterflies. We will maintain it by grazing sheep and cutting hay - traditional methods of farming very beneficial for wildlife. Hay meadows and woodland pasture have seriously declined during the twentieth century, along with huge numbers of wildflowers and insects. Most interments will take place in this grassland.

Oaks Pollarded for Rejuvenation

Our trees will take some years to grow to maturity, but this is in keeping with our ethos. It should be a timeless, peaceful place for loved ones to be interred, for visitors to enjoy and for the wildlife habitat to develop. Yet visitors will be surprised how quickly wildlife will be attracted to the site, especially as the adjacent field is also converted to woodland pasture.
